Chapter 1483: Section 1484: The Confined Region Chapter 1483: Section 1484: The Confined Region Not curious? Angel was somewhat surprised by Alex’s response.

“I just find it strange,” Alex whispered with his head lowered.

“Strange in what way?”

Alex didn’t answer and instead stared at the words on the paper, his eyes flickering slightly as if he saw something beyond the surface.

Seeing Alex silent, Angel did not press further but changed the subject, “Don’t you care at all why they die when they leave Gust Town? And aren’t you curious about what’s outside Gust Town?”

Alex was silent for a long time before he slowly said, “I am not curious about what’s outside Gust Town. What interests me more is…”

Alex lifted his head, looking towards the pitch-dark ceiling of the confessional as if he had seen a trapped cage. However, his gaze never lingered on the cage; instead, it moved beyond, towards the deeper Void.

“This world.”

Angel walked out of the Cruya Church, having not gathered much information from Alex. Alex had always lived in the church and had not even fully wandered around Gust Town, let alone other places. The scriptures mainly recorded some events in the Holy City; everything else was vague.

Therefore, Angel temporarily left the church, ready to go out and see for himself.

The style of Gust Town was actually very similar to Gru Town. Although not large, with a mountain, fields, and a stream flowing through, it was entirely self-sufficient.

The town’s buildings were mostly wooden, and perhaps because the residents did not pay much attention to maintenance, many wooden walls showed mottled traces, some from termite damage and others from dampness.

The air echoed a stale, moldy smell.

Angel took a walk around the town and even specifically found the sheriff’s and the mayor’s rooms, but to his disappointment, he did not find more location information.

In the mayor’s room, there was a very crude topographic map. However, the area depicted included only Gust Town and its immediate surroundings; anything farther out was a blank slate.

After leaving the mayor’s room, Angel’s gaze drifted toward the distant mountains.

It was said that in that direction lay the Holy City, hundreds of miles away.

Since there was no clue to be found in Gust Town, Angel decided to head towards the Holy City to see what was going on.

Angel took flight, heading toward the distant mountains. Now that he did not have a physical body to encumber him, he could float solely on the power of Illusion Technique, and his speed was not slow, either.

After flying for a few minutes, Angel had left Gust Town more than ten miles behind. Here, he encountered a surging, rolling river. The width of the river was at least dozens of meters with rocks strewn in the middle, disrupting the water flow and causing spray that even formed a layer of white mist over the river’s surface.

This river was the one that had to be crossed to get from Gust Town to the Holy City.

Angel landed and walked slowly to the edge of the single stone bridge over the river.

If he remembered correctly, the severed head of that Knight named Raven was found on one of these bridge piers.

Angel looked at the pier of the stone bridge and saw a protruding part on one of the piers, from which hung a rope. Below the rope was the turbulent river.

Angel flew next to the rope and upon closer inspection, he noticed the dark bloodstains on it.

Due to the mist from the river below, the rope was even damp.

It seemed this was indeed where the head of Knight Raven was found.

Angel glanced at the rope and then observed the surroundings, but finding nothing amiss, continued to fly onward. Though he had some interest in the series of cases in Gust Town, his current priority was to ascertain his exact location. If time allowed after that, he could return to investigate the cases that seemed to be the work of a Transcendent.

After all, he was nothing but an Illusion at the moment. Even if there truly were secrets of a Transcendent behind these events, without knowing his location or having a physical body, it was futile.

With that thought, Angel did not linger and continued to fly forward.

After crossing the river, Angel continued straight along the road. But within a minute, he suddenly stopped. Looking at the mountains ahead, he felt that something was off.

In his view, trees were lush, flowers and grass were abundant, and green mountains followed the contours of the ridges, sketching out beautiful, undulating curves.

However, Angel detected something distinctly unusual.

In the region where he was, one could hear the whistling of the wind, branches and leaves on the large trees swaying, with even some leaves falling.

But just a short distance ahead, there was no movement–no sign of the wind stirring the grass or the trees.

It was like a static painting.

There was definitely a problem. Alertness arose in Angel’s heart, but he did not back down; instead, he cautiously moved forward, inch by inch.

When Angel reached a certain critical point, he stopped.

Carefully, he extended his Illusionary Power to make contact…

Upon receiving feedback, Angel’s pupils suddenly constricted. Though Illusionary Power was not as sensitive as spiritual power, Angel still distinctly perceived that it was as if his power had hit a barrier, and when he tried to break through forcefully, the Illusionary Power bounced him back.

Angel exerted even greater force this time, but the barrier remained unresponsive, and he still could not leave.

Angel swiftly flew along the barrier, covering nearly ten miles before he finally confirmed that everything here was enclosed by the barrier. The scenery behind it might be what was actually beyond the barrier, or perhaps it was nothing but a projection!

His expression grew somewhat peculiar as he looked up at the sky.

If this place was surrounded by a barrier, what about the sky above? With this question in mind, Angel flew upward for about a kilometer, only to feel the barrier once again.

Angel slowly descended, finding himself near the tumultuous river, even vaguely making out the shape of the stone bridge.

Looking at the bridge piers in the distance, Angel suddenly remembered what Alex had said before.

—-The entirety of Gust Town is like a Birdcage that one cannot escape from. Should the little bird attempt to fly away, it will be met with an unseen hand ready to break its wings.

Angel murmured, “Is this the reason?”

Perhaps, Gust Town truly was just a prison, and the series of murders were all because the people within this cage discovered its secret, realizing they were living in a false world, and thus they were killed by someone behind the scenes?

But what purpose would that serve?

Reeds scatter to take root. Beasts kill to satiate their hunger. Every action generally serves a purpose, even if it’s just a game by some bored Evil God… there is a purpose… such as seeking amusement.

So then, what exactly is the mastermind planning to do after going to such lengths to turn this place into an inescapable Birdcage?

Angel turned back, gazing toward the vague silhouettes of buildings in the distant Gust Town.

“Is there any meaning to that place?”

As night slowly took over the fabric of daylight, scattering stars across the sky.

In the tranquil darkness, Alex, holding the Holy Scripture, read it word by word. After he earnestly and firmly finished reading the Holy Scripture, Father Berengar on the opposite side curved his lips into a pleased smile.

“Your words are now imbued with the power of the divine. I believe that when you become a Priest, you will surely bring the Father God’s gospel to the suffering masses.”

In the dim light of the oil lamp, Berengar’s smile was somewhat distorted by the play of light and shadow.

Alex, as if not noticing at all, stood up and respectfully bowed, “Father God above.”

When Alex raised his head again, Father Berengar had disappeared, replaced by a dark figure who let out a sinister laugh and slowly extended a hand from the darkness.

The hand broke through the shackles of darkness, turning into a pale and delicate one, most notable for its vivid purple nails.

“Come, hold my hand, and fall into the Abyss together…” the eerie voice whispered like a breeze past Alex’s ear.

Alex’s face remained expressionless, with no reaction, and he didn’t reach out to grab the hand.

A few seconds later, the vision abruptly vanished, and Alex returned from the darkness to the dimly lit cottage. However, there was still a hand in front of him, but this hand was covered with old, wrinkled skin.

Father Berengar extended his hand, touching Alex’s white half-length hair, “What are you daydreaming about?”

“Not at all, I was just contemplating the content of the Holy Scripture, which has given me new insights,” Alex lied without a change in expression.

Father Berengar, not detecting any deceit, even nodded contentedly, “Keeping the Holy Scripture in your heart at all times is the basic cultivation of a Priest, you’re doing very well.”

After finishing, Berengar’s eyes fell on Alex’s white hair, envying, “The Holy Scripture records that the Father God was born with white hair. Your hair is also so pure and white, without a single impurity. Perhaps it truly is the Father God’s blessing. I believe you will become an outstanding Priest.”

Alex nodded, “That is my wish.”

With a satisfied and content smile, Berengar left Alex’s room.

After Berengar’s departure, Alex fell into deep thought, his eyes flickering continuously. It wasn’t until half an hour later that Berengar’s ears twitched, and he turned to look outside the window.

Somehow, a dark shadow now stood visible through the white window paper.

“Is it Nun Tessa?”

No one answered.

Alex hesitated for a moment, “Mr. Pat?”

The window opened in response, revealing Angel’s face.

After Angel stepped into the room and saw Alex still maintaining his composure, he commented, “You don’t seem surprised by my appearance?”

Alex calmly looked at Angel and responded with a question, “Every moment, big and small things happen, so I am never surprised by any visitor at any time.”

After a pause, Alex said, “Rather than that, I am more curious to know, Mr. Pat, why aren’t you dead?”
